The economic punch of Exactrix. Dry fertilizer materials are not used with VRT-Site Specific... All Exactrix fluid NH3 and Liquid nutrients can be applied at 1%CV on every acre for many years to come.

But some simple checks need to be made every morning to assure 1% CV of application on every acre. Pressure gauges and Tachometers help along with precision orifices built with .0002 diameter assuring 1%CV.

Now you can VRT Site Specific work every time. For VRT-Site Specific to work to the
maximum you must have the
lowest possible CV of application.

Midwestern US has Lost 57.6 Billion Metric Tons of Soil Due to Agricultural Practices : UMass Amherst

The Mistake

Thus the difficulties of the plow are expressed exponentially on the Palouse.

The great soil depth has been skimmed off the hilltops where average yields have dropped 15 bushels per acre due to the plow.

Openers Make a Difference, Less is Always More...
Ag Pro, 12 inch band spacing, Paired Row Openers make a difference...Test Plots required. Application Rates Eric Odberg.

Eric Odberg at Genesee, Idaho,

Spring soft white club wheat, Spring club- 73.08#'s of nh3, 20.14#'s P, 30.63#'s S, 4.02 #'s Zinc, 2.01#'s boron.  “Really don't think I over applied.” as per Eric.

Spring Club was applied with too much N. It  has 91 pounds of N total.

And the Spring Club was probably 13% protein?  What is the Protein?

So it is overapplied about 60 pounds N….which means you probably need only apply 15 pounds of N as NH3 with 18 pounds of ammonium N from the P and S.

This is true with old fashioned non placement openers that 30 pounds of Applied N equals 1% protein. This placement opener has much higher efficiency.

You are missing about $40 per acre in your bank account mainly because you have a very efficient opener…..and always remember that the fertilizer you buy is only a stimulant with this advanced designed opener….the soil provides most of the nutrients.

It is also good news to learn that you can reduce N by 60 pounds….since 102 pounds of lime per acre would be required to overcome the 60 pounds over application of N.  This adds another $10 into your bank account over the long run….

So the real savings can also be added up and by the time you add reduced fill time…you probably have $55.00 to add back into the bank account next year.

Total N was too high in Highest Quality Malting Barley also with this opener built by Ag Pro and modified by Exactrix.

Malting Barley is further discussed below.

Don’t forget….white wheat protein does not come with a premium. And low protein in white wheat is desirable in all markets. When nitrogen costs so much per pound of N at 87 cents….you could have another $55 per acre because of uniformity and the opener.

These new machines are million dollar decisions over time…. Test Plots must be completed, the AgPro Exactrix Opener and 1%CV of application is changing your program.

Spring soft white should be in the 10% protein range.

Roger Wilson, TVA, WSU, Phosphate expert,  told me one time…..with regard to Nutrients and Protein….His comment. “Always remember Guy”, “Wheat makes yield first….and protein second.”

If you are not getting paid for protein….the rates need to be reduced due to the opener.

The sulfur may also be too high for soft white spring.

It is the opener on 12 inch band centers and average 6 inch rows that is making the big difference.

Test, Test, Test….next year.

How to Raise No-Tillage Spring Grain With Paired Row Openers and Exactrix TAPPS and TAPPKTS plus Zinc.

A good way to determine “Paired Row Opener” fertilizer efficiency is to measure the barley yield, the plumb kernels, the percentage of thin kernels, the  protein levels, and bulk density or test weight of the samples.

Paired Row Openers are known across North America to have top fertilizer efficiency hiding fertilizer from weeds and making NPKS perform at 166% to 200% better levels of crop availability.

Eric Malting

Here are a few notes to review before studying what happened in the spring of 2022 at the Eric Odberg farm.

The Malting barley was over fertilized, a good example is shown in this picture as the barley is tipping 15 to 30 degrees. This tipping of the stem can reduce an even fill of the two row head. It is the even filling that assures and plumb kernel with no thins. It is very easy to over fertilize Malting Barley with Paired Row openers.

This was a good crop for the area of Genesee, Idaho…well above average and exceeding all other fields to our knowledge. Variety of Malt is Connect. Yield 5,330 lbs. Per acre. Protein is 12.8% Thins were 8%, 5% is max without a dock. Test Weight was 55 pounds per bushel

Malting Barley Quality Specifications - Deer Creek Malthouse

Optimum Malting Barley Protein is between 10 and 12%. We have determined that it can go to 13% protein and as low as 9.5% protein. A very broad range of 3.5% .

The ideal protein content for malting barley resides between 10 and 12%, and too high or low a protein content can negatively affect malting quality and, therefore, Page 3 Foods 2021, 10, 1389 3 of 21 brewing capacity. Jun 16, 2021. Each 1% of additional protein in Spring wheat requires 30 additional pounds of N…and not always applied as the soil easily contribute the N without placement N.

Protein in Base Malt — BrewChatter

Thins must be 5% or lower. Thin barley berries result from drought stress and too much fertilizer.

Low plumpness and high protein mostly are attributable to high temperatures and moisture stress during grain filling.

High proteins are also related to high efficiency of the fertilizing opener.

The Paired Row Opener is very efficient….and there is no need for seed row starter in spring wheat. Especially under drought and plant stress from lack of soil stored moisture in the root zone.

  • If your TAPPS or TAPPKTS bands were in the soil Mustang style with 1% CV at a 7 to 8 inch depth you would again have changed the drought stress game. Roots flourish where you place fertilizer.
  • You must be aware that this Exactrix TAPPS and TAPPKTS plus Zinc paired row opener is very efficient….and drought stress requires much deeper bands.

Recommended applications, Following the Ortho Ratio, 27-12-0-7S. Yielder Paired Row Seeding vs 10 inch Yielder Seeding….nutrients are much more crop available.

The Yield jump is 20% in spring crops and 10% in winter crops as compared to 10 inch Mid Row banding 1895.

It is very easy to think that your old rates are correct…..the rates must be designed around the opener as per my previous comments.

Paired Row may require testing of rates and quality. This is a very big deal long term….we are talking millions of dollars over the next 20 years.

Always remember the soil raises the crop….not the fertilizer….The fertilizer is a stimulant….Fertilizer can hurt yields. Poor opener design can hurt yields.

With No till old TAPPS and TAPPKS  bands remain crop available…..and you are now producing deep bands 180% faster for future crops using TAPPS and TAPPKTS plus Zinc.

Follow the Ortho Ratio.  And always use Ammonium….No nitrate. Ammonia is Amino, Only Amino can single step or directly form amino acids or proteins.

Nitrate is a two-step operation to make Amino Acid and there is a 17% energy loss.

If you need more volume with liquids to improve the flow…..use K-Row 23. Never use Nitrate in the row.

On winter wheat you should try 2.5 gallons of APP and 3 gallons of K-Row 23, you can try it in re-crop winter wheat or winter wheat on spring wheat to control browning root rot over the winter….but  do not use on legume soils.0

Remember….always remember….all starter fertilizers use Ammonium NH4 and never nitrate, NO3.

Like you  and I have learned this over many years of testing and working with the UNL, Dr. Schepers.

  1. Barley and Western Soft White, Spring and Winter.  Your average rate, 54 lbs. N- 24 lbs. P-0.0K- and ATS,14S. Go to 4 to 5 gallons of KTS or K-Row 23  to stiffen barley straw.
  2. Protein Wheats Spring and Winter, 81-36-0-21S plus micros. In Spring club….cut the fertilizer rate in half.
  3. NO seed row fertilizer in spring crop….as this causes high root set and drought stress and thins.
  4. Use PGR to shorten the barley straw. PGR is Too tricky on wheat. PGR on Malting and Feed Barley is worth 500 to 1,000 pounds more yield. Work with Kevin Melville.
